Gendarmes Rape 14 Yr. Old On UB Campus
By Ernest Sumelong
Two gendarmes, deployed in Buea to forestall students' strike, have allegedly raped a form two student of the Government Secondary School, GSS Bokova.
The student, whose names we are withholding, said the men in uniform raped her near the campus of the university. According to the student, 14, a gendarme officer met her around the university junction as she went home in the evening.
"The officer called for me, but I hesitated. He intimidated me that if I refused to come, he will beat me, so I went. He proposed to give me a ride but I told him that since people were still moving and it was not late, so I would not want a lift," the girl narrated.
The girl said the officer persuaded her to see her off but took her towards the University of Buea Campus."When I told him I was branching off to the road to my house, he asked for my national identity card and I told him I had not yet made one.
He told me to follow him because I did not have an ID and said he was taking me to their commander. As he took me towards the school, I told him to leave me and as I struggled to shout and free myself from him, he started beating me," she said, tears streaming down her cheeks.
"When we reached the gate of the university, he called his friend, whose name I got as Song, and they took me near the small flowing water that passes by the gate and both of them raped me there. After they had finished, he still insisted that they will take me to their commander.
As we were going, a security man saw me kneeling, crying and praying him to let me go. When he let me go, he told me not to pass through the main gate that those police there would disturb me. He told me to use another smaller gate.
As I used the smaller gate on the side of the university, some boys saw me crying and they asked why I was crying and I narrated to them what had happened and they told me to go to the hospital," she said, wiping tears off.
This is one of the many rape cases reported to The Post. Many university of Buea female students and female indigenes in Molyko during the UB crisis have been raped by policemen and gendarmes.
